Every week we get messages from Indian women who paid ₹8,000 for what turned out to be a cheap imitation — wrong fabric, faded after one wash, no original label. It happens more than you'd think. After 12 years of selling original designer suits in India, we've seen every trick in the book. This guide will make sure it never happens to you.

Why Indian Women Love Pakistani Suits

There's a reason Pakistani lawn suits have become a staple in the Indian ethnic wear wardrobe. The fabrics are genuinely different — Pakistani lawn is a finer weave than most Indian cotton. Lighter, cooler and softer against the skin. The embroidery traditions, drawing from centuries of Mughal craft, produce detail work at a price point that would be significantly higher from an Indian luxury brand.

Add the silhouette — longer kurtas, more structured dupattas, more considered cuts — and you have a product that fills a specific gap: designer-quality ethnic wear that isn't a lehenga and isn't a plain kurti.

Brands like Maria B, Sana Safinaz, Asim Jofa and Hussain Rehar have built global followings because of this combination of craft, price and cultural identity. Indian consumers discovered them through social media and never looked back.

The growing demand for original designer suits in India has created a large parallel market of fakes, copies and mislabelled products. Knowing how to tell them apart is now an essential skill for every buyer.

The 6 Biggest Scams to Avoid

Here are the six most common ways buyers get deceived — and exactly how to spot each one before you pay.

01
The Label Swap
Sellers photograph genuine designer products, take your order, then ship a cheap Indian-made copy with no original label. The photo is real — the product is not. Red flag: Price 40–60% below market. Images are clearly brand press photos with no Indian seller watermark.
02
The Fabric Downgrade
Listing says "premium Pakistani lawn" — product arrives in polyester or low-grade cotton. Genuine Pakistani lawn feels cool, smooth and almost silky. Polyester traps heat and feels synthetic. Red flag: No fabric composition listed. "Imported fabric" with no brand name.
03
The Missing Dupatta
Authentic 3-piece suits always include a coordinated dupatta — printed or embroidered to match. Some sellers ship only 2 pieces and claim the dupatta is "sold separately." Red flag: Listing shows dupatta in photos but description says "2-piece."
04
The Instagram Ghost
Polished Instagram page, stunning photos, COD available — then silence after payment, or a completely different product arrives. These accounts appear and disappear in weeks. Red flag: No Google reviews. No website. Account created recently. Only WhatsApp orders.
05
The Old Season Bait
Sellers list current season photos but ship a 2–3 year old piece from a different collection. Since you may not recognise specific designs, you might not notice until it's too late. Red flag: Listing says "2026" but no year-specific collection label on the product.
06
The Marketplace Trap
Large marketplaces host hundreds of unverified sellers. You may be buying from someone who has never held the actual stock. Quality and authenticity vary wildly with no accountability. Red flag: No seller-specific reviews. Product sourcing is untraceable.

The 7-Point Authenticity Checklist

Before placing any order from any seller — including us — run through this checklist. A genuine authorised retailer will tick all seven boxes without hesitation.

Verifiable Google reviews with real buyer comments
Not just star ratings — actual written reviews mentioning specific brands. Search "[seller name] reviews" and check their Google Maps listing separately from their website.
Operating for at least 3 years
Check domain registration at whois.domaintools.com and the date of their oldest Google review. Scam operations rarely survive more than a season or two.
Specific brand names and collection codes in listings
Genuine sellers know their products. Listings should mention the collection name, volume number and article code. Vague descriptions like "latest designer suit" are a warning sign.
A clear written returns policy on their website
Any trustworthy seller has a publicly available returns policy. If you have to ask in WhatsApp what the return terms are — that itself is a red flag.
Close-up photos of their actual stock
Authentic sellers photograph their own inventory. Look for close-ups of embroidery, fabric weave and dupatta. Sellers using only official brand press photos may not hold the stock.
A traceable physical presence
A registered business address, GST number on invoices, or a Google Maps listing. If the seller exists only as a phone number and Instagram handle, proceed with extreme caution.
Prices within the realistic range
See the price guide below. If a "Maria B Luxury Lawn 3-piece" is listed at ₹1,800, it is not genuine. Fabric and embroidery costs alone make it impossible to produce at that price.

Real vs Fake — What to Check When Your Order Arrives

When your package arrives, run through this check before removing any tags or trying the suit on. If anything fails, you still have full grounds to return it.

✓ Genuine Lawn Suit
Cool, smooth touch — like fine cotton muslin
Holds colour — no transfer on damp white cloth
Tight, consistent embroidery — threads don't pull
Original brand label sewn inside with collection code
Dupatta matches — same print quality and weight
Lightweight — full 3-piece weighs 300–450g
Crisp print edges — no bleeding or blurring
✗ Fake / Imitation
Rough, synthetic or unusually stiff hand feel
Colour transfers onto damp white cloth
Embroidery uneven — threads loop loosely
No sewn brand tag, or a generic printed sticker
Dupatta is different quality — thinner or mismatched
Heavier than expected for stated fabric type
Blurry print edges or colour bleeding between areas

2026 Price Benchmarks — What to Really Pay

These are real market prices for authentic, original suits from established Indian retailers. Anything more than 40% below these ranges is a copy, mislabelled product or old-season stock being misrepresented as new.

Price (₹)
What You Get
Charizma C-Prints
Entry-level printed lawn
₹ 2,800–4,500
3-piece unstitched, digital print, chiffon dupatta
Maria B MBasics

₹ 3,500–5,500
Ready-to-wear, clean cuts, subtle embroidery
Sana Safinaz Muzlin

₹ 4,000–6,500
3-piece unstitched, signature SS prints
Maria B Luxury Lawn
Embroidered premium
₹ 5,500–9,000
Swarovski embellishments, heavy embroidery 3-piece
Asim Jofa Luxury Lawn
Designer summer collection
₹ 5,500–9,500
Bold embroidery, structured silhouette
Zara Shahjahan Coco
Vintage floral prints
₹ 4,500–8,000
Signature florals, earthy palettes, premium lawn
Hussain Rehar Lawn
Bold contemporary
₹ 5,500–10,000
Avant-garde prints, structured silhouette
Festive Chiffon Formals
Any major brand
₹ 6,500–15,000
Embroidered chiffon, net dupatta, occasion wear
Bridal Couture
Any major brand
₹ 15,000–40,000+
Heavy embellishment, bridal-grade fabric and craft
The golden rule: If a "branded" designer suit is priced more than 40% below these ranges, it is almost certainly not original. Fabric and embroidery costs alone make sub-₹2,000 "branded" suits physically impossible to produce authentically.

What to Look For in a Trustworthy Seller

Once you've applied the checklist from Section 03, you want a seller who combines all these qualities in one place. Here's what a genuinely trustworthy online retailer looks like — and why each point matters.

ISO certification — not just a claim, a verified credential
ISO 9001 certification means a seller's quality management processes are independently audited. It's a level of accountability that most online fashion retailers simply don't have. Always ask for the certificate number and verify it.
A decade or more of operation
Longevity is trust. A seller who has been operating for 10+ years has survived competition, returns, complaints and market changes — and kept their customers happy enough to stay in business.
Hundreds of verified Google reviews — not just website testimonials
Website testimonials can be curated or fabricated. Google reviews are harder to manipulate. Look for a high volume of detailed, specific reviews — not just stars — mentioning specific brands and collections by name.
Ethical sourcing certification (SEDEX or equivalent)
SEDEX certification means the seller's supply chain has been audited for ethical labour practices, environmental standards and responsible sourcing. Very few Indian ethnic wear retailers hold this — it's a meaningful differentiator.
A clearly written, no-questions-asked returns policy
A seller confident in their product quality has no reason to make returns difficult. Look for a written policy with specific timeframes (10 days is standard), free pickup from your doorstep, and no vague conditions buried in fine print.
Responsive WhatsApp support — not just a contact form
For purchases of ₹5,000–₹15,000, you should be able to speak to someone before buying. A seller with genuine WhatsApp support who responds within the hour is a seller who stands behind their stock.

Everything You Still Want to Know

Are Pakistani suits legally available in India?
Yes. Ethnic wear including Pakistani suits can be sold freely in India when sourced through legal channels. Many Indian sellers manufacture locally using South Asian designs and fabrics, or source through legitimate import and manufacturing routes. The Fashion Station has been operating legally since 2014 with full GST registration and ISO certification.
What is the minimum price for a genuine original designer suit?
For authentic branded suits from labels like Maria B, Sana Safinaz or Asim Jofa, expect to pay a minimum of ₹3,500–4,000 for entry-level collections. Quality unstitched 3-piece lawn sets from premium brands start around ₹4,500–5,500. Anything below ₹2,500 claiming to be a major designer brand is almost certainly not original.
How do I know if the suit I received is original?
Check for: an original brand label sewn inside the garment (not a sticker), the specific collection name and article code on the packaging, premium fabric feel (smooth, cool, lightweight), and tight consistent embroidery. Cross-reference the article code with the brand's official social media to verify it's a real design from that collection year.
Is it safe to buy with COD (cash on delivery)?
COD is safer than prepaid for first-time orders from new sellers — you only pay when the package arrives. However, COD does not protect you after you've opened and accepted delivery. Always inspect the sealed package before signing and confirm the seller's return policy before ordering.
Can I get suits stitched in India?
Yes. Most established online sellers including The Fashion Station offer a stitching service for unstitched suits. You submit your measurements and the suit is stitched to your exact size before dispatch. This is ideal for 3-piece unstitched collections where the kurta fit matters most.
Why are some designer suits so much cheaper on certain sites?
Three reasons: (1) Indian-made copies of designer patterns — not original. (2) Old-season stock heavily discounted — genuine but from 2–3 years ago. (3) A lower-tier label mislabelled as a premium brand. In all three cases you are not getting what the listing implies. Always verify using the checklist in Section 03 above.
Which brand is best for Indian occasions?
For everyday and summer: Charizma Lawn or Sana Safinaz Muzlin. For weddings and festive occasions: Maria B Luxury Lawn or Asim Jofa Festive Chiffon. For vintage florals: Zara Shahjahan Coco Prints. For bold statement dressing: Hussain Rehar Luxury Lawn. All are available at The Fashion Station with free shipping and COD.
